I've finally made the set of bending rolls from the Hemingway kit I bought last year! These are based on the George Thomas design published in Model Engineer years ago and I've followed the 'words and music' pretty much to the letter. The design is much better than the usual type sold which leave a strip at the start and finish of the metal unbent which needs to be either trimmed off or bent by hand. The George Thomas design grips the metal between two driven rollers and pushes it against a third roller that does the bending. By feeding the metal through the rolls in both directions it can be bent right to the very edge. The gears between the top and bottom 'driving' rollers are not essential but enable thicker material to be put through the rolls without slipping.
